Introducing Mcdonald's McPlant Burger
COLLAPSE
Over the last couple of years, you have probably noticed the increase in fast food restaurants that are serving plant-based meat burgers. As consumers find more health benefits from opting out of eating regular meat many restaurants have begun introducing their own plant-based burgers. In 2019, Burger King introduced the Impossible Whopper and Carl's Jr introduced the Beyond Famous Star and this week McDonalds announced that in partnership with the brand Beyond Meat they would be testing their own plant-based burger in 8 US restaurants next month.
The McPlant burger will contain a meat-free patty that is made of rice, peas, and potatoes. It will also include mayonnaise, a slice of American cheese and will cost about the same as other burgers at McDonald's during the test. While the burger is meatless it still may not be vegetarian friendly since it will be cooked on the same grill as other burgers during the test.
The fast-food chain has already begun to sell the McPlant burger in other restaurants internationally, but this will be the first time McDonald's introduces the burger to stores in the United States. The article referenced below states that McDonalds did introduce a meatless burger in Canadian stores in September of 2019 but by April of 2020 the burger had been discontinued with no talks of bringing it back. This new burger will be made with a Beyond patty and will be part of the McPlant line that was launched after the test in Canadian stores.
