(1) Read the two chapter excepts (Lindell et al 2007 and Sylves 2015) posted above, which introduce you to the four stages in the Disaster Cycle:

1) mitigation;

2) prevention;

3) response; and

4) recovery.

(2) Step one: Watch then two documentaries posted for Unit 05. Hint: Before you start, review the questions written under Step Three. This will give you an idea of what you should be looking for as you watch the documentaries.

(3) Step Two: Using what you learned from the chapter excerpts and the documentaries, identify and describe what you believe were the biggest challenges (problems) encountered during and after Hurricane Katrina. Think broadly. There is no need for you to do research outside of the materials provided for you. In your response, organize the challenges that you identified into the following three categories:

1) mitigation challenges;

2) prevention challenges; and

3) response challenges.
