PART 1.

Intervention Program for Health Promotion

Imagine that you are a director of community health for your local health department. You have been tasked with creating a 6-week intervention program. Choose one of the following community health issues:

type 2 diabetes,

heart disease,

mental illness, or

water pollution.

Using a racial or ethnic minority group as your target population, create 10 objectives for a 6-week intervention program that will combat the issue. Be sure to consider the following questions.

What is the health issue?

Why is it a community health issue?

Which racial/ethnic minority group did you choose?

Explain how your intervention program will address the cultural and language characteristics of your chosen group.

What is your plan for delivering appropriate health education and care to this group?

What are the 10 objectives of the program?

Part 2.

You are a community health educator in the Southwest United States. Your county health department received a grant to create a new initiative that is designed to decrease smoking rates in the county. Your health commissioner and Board of Health want to create a team of teachers, parents, community leaders, and public health professionals to develop an intervention.

In your opinion, which cognitive and affective methods would be useful for this purpose, and why?
