Assignment task: Requirements for the Self-Reflection Essay
This essay meets the requirement of LSP 200 learning outcomes of a formal writing assignment.
Students should use the materials from the class to complete the essay (no external materials from outside of the course are allowed). Students will analyze their NEP score by applying the worldviews, tenets, and ethics explored in this class. Then, students will compare and contrast their NEP score to other environmental justice communities. Lectures should not be used as a reference but serve to explain and guide students in understanding the materials presented in this course. So, do not reference the lectures. Remember to use APA Style, and incorporate all of the learning from revising the Discussion Boards completed in the course.
This essay will pull the students into first person writing. Try to limit this approach to writing as best you can. Excessive first person writing (I, we, me, you, us, we, my, our) will yield poor results. This is an opportunity for students to think about how this course has impacted their worldview and to assess it using a well-respected NEP scale. See the quiz description in this module on how to interpret the scale using the markers indicated in that section.
The format of the paper should be the following:
I. Introduction
This is where students should give an overview of their thesis statement and paper.
II. Interpreting the NEP Score using Worldviews, Tenets, and Ethics
Students should interpret their NEP score with the literature provided. Then, apply the concepts covered in class such as the worldviews, tenets, and ethics. Students can explain which of these concepts correlate with the NEP score and which show a contrast.
III. Applying the NEP Score with Environmental Justice Communities
Students should compare and contrast the NEP score with the ej communities. Describe where the NEP is similar or different to the experiences in these communities.
IV. Conclusion
Reflect on your own experiences and provide examples using your NEP score. What had the largest impact on your understanding of multicultural environmental worldviews in this class?
