Performance of different organization types
In business, the prevailing theory is that companies can be categorized into one of four types based on their strategic profile: reactors, which are dominated by industry forces; defenders, which specialize in lowering costs for established products while maintaining quality; prospectors, which develop new/improved products; and analyzers, which operate in two product areas-one stable and the other dynamic.
The American Business Review (January 1990) reported on a study that proposes a fifth organization type, balancers, which operate in three product spheres-one stable and two dynamic. Each firm in a sample of 78 glassware firms was categorized as one of these five types, and the level of performance (process research and development ratio) of each was measured.
(a) A completely randomized design ANOVA of the data resulted in a significant (at α = .05) F-value for treatments (organization types). Interpret this result.
(b) Multiple comparisons of the five mean performance levels (using Tukey's procedure at α = .05) are summarized in the following table. Interpret the results.
Using the class dot plots constructed earlier in this lesson, count the number of times a sample proportion is less than two standard deviations from the true proportion for each plot. Do the results agree with your answer to part a?
Find the confidence interval for the difference of the two means - Is there a significant difference in teacher's salaries between two states
The publisher selects a random sample of 200 subscribers and finds that 116 plan to renew their subscriptions. Use (a=0.01). p = the population of subscribers to Golf Illustrated who renew. Calculate the p-value.
What are the mean and standard deviation of the proportions of random samples of 400 motorcylce owners who own Harleys?
Assume that samples of size 2 are randomly selected with replacement from this population of four values. The first samples selected is 11,9. What is the mean of the sampling distribution of means?
Paperbacks are $1.15 each, and hardcover books are $3.70. Of the 100 books sold last Tuesday morning, 95 were paperback and the rest were hardcover. What was the weighted mean price of a book?
There are two other mathematically equivalent ways to do a hypothesis test: the p value method and the critical region method. Can you describe them? What is the null hypothesis?
Differentiate between mean, median, and mode. Interpret distribution shapes, especially with respect to skewness and outliers.
