International Business Integrative Term Project Purpose
The purpose of Integrative Term Assignment is to enable you to demonstrate your knowledge of important international business concepts and apply research, communication and analytical skills. This assignment supports critical learning outcomes of the course including examination of major steps in internationalization of Canadian firms, assessment of various environmental forces confronting them in host countries, and evaluation of strategic effects of internationalization.
This assignment will require you to undertake significant research. All information in your project must be supported with reference to specific resources. Some resources will be suggested, but part of the project will be for you to get creative with library resources and the use of the Internet.
Develop answers to each of the following questions on your assigned country.
Country- Russia
1. What type of legal system does the country have? Is it generally viewed as honest and fair by local citizens? Apply the Corruption Perception Index. See also Transparency International. Does corruption exist in the country? How serious compared to Canada? Are there any laws about corruption in the country? Are there any laws that might impact a foreign business operation? Explain the relevance of this information for a company considering entering this country to conduct business.
2. What is the level of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the economy? What countries are the primary suppliers of FDI to the country? What types of businesses? How much FDI is from Canada? Is the government of your chosen country supportive of FDI? Explain the relevance of this information for a company considering entering this country to conduct business.
3. Has the country erected any trade barriers to imported goods? If so, what kinds of barriers has it erected? Against which goods are these barriers directed? How high are the corporate tax and personal income taxes? Explain the relevance of this information for a company considering entering this country to conduct business.
4. Does the country belong to any regional trade blocs? If so, which ones? Is it a member of the WTO? Explain the relevance of this information for a company considering entering this country to conduct business.
