Coordinate human resource functions and processes

Task

Support the integration of business ethics in human resource practices by making sure employees know:

  • there is a code of conduct and a code of ethics with which they must comply
  • the possible repercussions of non-compliance with the organisation's codes

BENCHMARKS

Monitor the behaviour and actions employees at all levels in the organisation to be sure the code of conduct is complied with and behaviours are ethical and appropriate across the organisation and:

  • provide information about requirements relating to ethical behaviour and legislative compliance in human resource policies and practices
  • respond to and investigate any reports of unethical behaviour
  • comply with privacy legislation when collecting and handling employee files and information
  • prevent any unauthorised access to, or dissemination of personal employee information in line with privacy legislation
  • act to preserve confidentiality of information disclosed by users of HR services
  • collect information and make objective assessments of instances of unethical behaviour - by managers, employees or HR personnel - and take action that is supported by organisation's policy and procedural requirements
  • manage situations by counselling employees, putting performance management agreements in place, using a warning system or acting (within the constraints of industrial legislation) to dismiss employees if there is absolute proof of misconduct
  • communicate, verbally or in writing, the requirement that all persons responsible for HR functions understand the standards of ethical behaviour expected of them
  • identify and arrange training support if it is needed.
