INT204 Introduction to Management in Community Services - Stott's College
Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate broad knowledge of a range of community services theories and frameworks.
Learning Outcome 2: Develop an appreciation for the legal framework in which organisations and communities operate.
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge within specialist counselling areas, including alcohol and other drugs, youth, family and mental health.

Assessment 1: Case Studies covering Fundamental Concepts (25%)
Students are required to analyse three case studies. All case studies address material from the readings, lectures and class tutorials between Weeks 3-5
Word count: 900 -1200 words.
Your assessment must be submitted through Turnitin and must adhere to the College's academic integrity and authorship requirements.
You must use APA 7 referencing and include a minimum of 5 references.
Assessment 2: Practical Assessment
Word Count: 1000-1200 words
Students are required to describe the elements of a Strategic Plan and identify key performance measures for a Not-for-Profit social service operating in their state. The service type, Vision and Mission are presented below:
• The service: Support service for young people experiencing mental health issues and experiencing homelessness.
• The Vision: An Australian service where young people can gain access to appropriate support for mental health and housing.
• The Mission: To enable young people who are experiencing mental health issues to secure safe and stable housing and ongoing support.
Based on your individual research, the Strategic Plan will include the following:
• Four Service Values and the reason why you chose each value.
• Three Strategic Objectives (or goals) of the organisation.
• For each Strategic Objective identified, list one Outcome that can be measured that relates to the benefits of the service that you want to achieve.
• For each Outcome identified, list a related Output that tracks the services that are provided.
• Select one Strategic Objective and identify a Benchmark that you could use to assess the performance of the service. Include a description of how the Benchmark you have chosen relates to a relevant Outcome or Output measure.
• Identify the Impact that you want to achieve and describe the wider social and economic consequences of the of the work of the service.
You must use APA7 referencing. Your written report should include at least 5 peer-reviewed (scholarly) journal articles.
Assessment: Essay
Word Count: 2000-2200 words
This assessment will require you to research and review the operation of one of the following types of community service sectors
operating in Australia:
o Support service for youth experiencing mental health and homelessness;
o Support service for women and children experiencing family violence.
Your essay must include the following:
o A description of the service sector you have chosen and identification of two management challenges that the service sector might face;
o An analysis of two partnerships that services operating in this sector could establish to help address the management challenges identified;
o Discuss the importance of innovation in the context of the community service sector you have selected.
You must use APA 7 referencing.
