Red-leaf plum trees possess the same photosynthetic pigments that are found in spinach. In addition, red leaf plum trees also have a purple pigment that absorbs substantial amounts of light ranging from 525-600 nm. Insignificant amounts of other wavelengths of light are absorbed by this pigment. If you were to have repeated your photosynthesis experiment on chloroplasts from red-leaf plum trees, your results would have been generally the same as those you got for the spinach leaves. Based on such results, would you expect this additional purple pigment to be involved in driving photosynthesis? Explain the logic behind your answer?
