The success of certain innovations depends on the dynamics of ecosystems - "the collaborative arrangements through which firms combine their individual offerings into a coherent, customer-facing solution," as Ander (2006) stated. The author considered HDTV and Apple's Newton as failures due to the problems/risks in their respective ecosystems. In the field you are most familiar with, pick an innovation (technological or otherwise) that relies on an ecosystem, as opposed to a single innovator, to realize its value.
