he ballistic pendulum is a device used to measure the speed of a fast-moving projectile such as a bullet. But in this problem, the bullet is fired with a velocity of 450m/sec and then bullet is stopped by the block. Then the entire system swings up to a height ‘h ‘as shown in the diagram. Assume bullet's mass, m1 is 40.0 grams, the mass of the pendulum, m2 is 4.0 Kg.

Assume the zero potential level is at the initial equilibrium position of the bottom of the block shown in the diagram.

1. Find the height ‘h' above.

2. Find the length of the string if the angle between the string and the vertical line when the entire system has risen to above height ‘h' is 60 degrees?
