Assignment Topics: This assignment requires you to write a research proposal focusing on one of the following contemporary IT areas:

Assignment Description: You are to propose a research study as part of this assignment that involves humans. You can investigate many different aspects for the chosen topics. For example, if you choose the first topic then some areas can be: safety issues, interconnectivity, road congestion and energy consumption etc. You could look at comparative studies in new areas with studies that have been done in the past.

This is a group assignment to motivate discussion within the team members and facilitate group cooperation and consensus. You will be individually assessed in the team proposal from a peer review based on your contribution to the team product and progress.

The research question(s) and/or hypotheses of your proposal need to be specific. Your questions/hypotheses must have a research goal that is testable (one or more dependent variables). It should be reasonably specific to suit a small to medium sized research study. As a word of caution - beware of having questions that are too general - the more general your research question, the more factors (independent, dependent and other variables) you will need to consider in your research study.

Your research must also involve human participants (so sampling will be required). This may guide your selection of a research question and how it is to be answered.

Your proposal is to be submitted as a Word document to Turnitin by the above-mentioned due date - Students are reminded of the penalties for both plagiarism and late submissions.

Your report will be aimed at "selling" the proposal, ie. approving and finding the proposed study, to a potential project sponsor (Me).

You will use the APA citation style (in text citations and in the bibliography). Your team proposal will be assessed in terms of originality and significance, adequacy of the literature cited, appropriateness of scope, adequacy of background, adequacy of analysis of issues, technical quality, clarity of presentation and organisation of the paper. A detailed marking guide for the research proposal is shown below.
Your proposal should be at least 4, to not more than 5, pages long excluding the title page, bibliography references and any Appendices, such as Appendix B: the review of the literature, which is a short version of a systematic literature review as described in the Details section below.

You will include a title page at the front of your proposal that states the research question(s)/hypotheses, the team member names and student numbers, and their peer review percentage (see the last page of the assignment for an explanation of the peer review).

You will have a bibliography in APA style following the proposal that contains only the secondary data cited in your proposal. You are to include any survey instruments used as an additional Appendix (Appendix C, D, etc) to the research proposal.
