Do you have suggestions regarding my discussion regarding APA Section 9 for assessments? Is this a good guide/format, suitable for my audience?
My degree field is under General Psychology, and I know it is a broad choice. What I plant to do in the future is become a psychologist for adolescents, adults, and dip into marriage counseling as well. Seeing that I will be focusing on behaviors, people's way of thinking, and how to cope in different types of situations I would like to highlight the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). The test is used for exposing the main thing that motivates a person, their emotions, and core personality conflicts. The test was designed to see about clues being given so the psychologists can determine the persons relationship's and how the attitudes that they have towards themselves (Stein, 2016). The same way the test is administered is the same way that I would use it for my future clients. I would have a private office that has two different rooms for sessions in it based on the age ranges of the clients. I will make sure before administering this test that the room is quiet, and the client is focused so they are able to concentrate and decipher the pictures used for the test so they can tell me a story or what it is they see and feel from the card presented to them.
For those who would like to administer this ambiguous test to their clients I would first recommend following ethics code 9.02 for the Use of Assessments. Using this code, we will first be figuring out how this particular assessment will benefit our client. Since we are dealing with an underage client, code 9.03 Informed Consent in Assessments is the second step to be made. According to the American Psychological Association (2017), Psychologists obtain informed consent for assessments, evaluations, or diagnostic services. If we are wanting to sit in with an adolescent around the age of 15, who is having some concerns with behavior and his interactions with others. First, we would have him come in and sit down in the quiet setting. Second, we will get approximately ten cards for boys out of the deck and have him look at the cards and start to tell me what he sees and create a story along with it. After following into code 9.03, there is code 9.06 Interpreting Assessment Results. Using this code in the step process for this child is important because we are able to find out the results of the test and determine the appropriate "diagnosis, treatment plan, legal status, educational placement, or employment and promotion opportunities (Fisher, 2023). We can determine the child's emotions and mindset when it comes to looking into his results. Last I can use 9.10 Explaining Assessment Results to the child's parent (s).
