Imagine that you have a close friend or relative who has been diagnosed with leukemia, and they need a stem cell transplant. You organize a recruiting event to test people to see if they are a match for your friend. You are the person in charge of talking to the potential donors about what is involved if they are found to be a match.

How would you teach the person about the bone marrow aspiration procedure? You need to include the following information about the procedure:

How the donor would prepare
The steps involved in the procedure
The potential complications
The process of recovery
The benefits to the recipient

Develop a script that includes all of the above information. Create a video of yourself delivering this information to the potential donor. You may use a second person in your video to play the donor, or you can imagine that you are speaking to the donor in the camera.

Healthcare professionals must deal with the human side of procedures. As you might imagine, a donor would have questions and maybe even doubts or fears. Your job is to inform them well but to do it in a way that is caring and compassionate.
