TASK - MINISTERIAL BRIEFING
Social workers within government (State or Federal) can influence the development of social policies. A primary way of informing government decision-makers (Ministers or Chief Executives) is through briefing notes or presentations. Students may choose one of the following two options:
Written Policy Briefing - Strict 2-page limit - word 750
A word template that must be used is available on FLO
Ministerial Briefings are prepared by a public servant that keeps the decision-maker informed about issues for which they are responsible.
A key challenge of this assessment is brevity. You must be concise, focused and persuasive.
IMPORTANT- Students will analyse the problem represented in a social policy and articulate and an alternative representation of the problem through a social work lens.
This assessment must be supported by at least 6 academic references. You will need to use topic materials and undertake wider research. APA referencing conventions must be used. The references may form the third and/or fourth pages of your briefing or in your slides.
The topic of your briefing note MUST address one of the contemporary social issues listed here.
