Briefly describe the [fictional] job opening in your department. Summarize the industry standard for qualifications and core competencies, including education and experience.

Candidate 1: has more education but less experience.

Candidate 2: has less education, but more experience.

I would hire candidate 1, from experience of having to hire coders in the past, it easier to train someone who has less experience verses someone who has more experience. The reason why is simply because when it comes to coding it is hard to retrain the brain from what they have done in the past. While the coding rules, regulations, and guidelines in general are the same, each specialty varies in the requirements for coding than others. Also because one way a office/ clinic handled coding can either be done incorrectly or cutting shortcuts, which happens a lot in many places. Hiring someone who is education and has the knowledge can be trained without any bias on how they used to do things at their previous job.
