Topic Selection - Industrial Revolution

The Power Point Presentation may be created for any topic, period, style or furniture designer, or architect listed on the class syllabus under Course Content. To determine the specific topics, browse through the course textbook and explore the Web.

This is a Guideline (framework). There is flexibility, so please add what you think will enhance your project. The goal is for you to become an expert on the topic you select. When you are working on this, think of it this way: Say you showing a client a presentation about a topic. Assume they know nothing about it. Every image and description should contain information that will educate someone else.

The Format for Power Point Presentation:

1. Title Page

2. Table of Content

3. Background History

4. Exterior Architecture (5 examples)

5. Interior Architecture (5 examples)

6. Original furniture of the period (5 examples)

7. Fabrics/Materials (5 examples)

8. Motifs (4 examples)

9. Art (5 examples)
10. Contemporary usage/applications (5 examples)

11. Museum or venue you visit (5 examples/images)

12. Works Cited (Any copying and pasting of information is plagiarism without a Works Cited List)

Technical Aspects:

1. Resolution of images. Clear and not blurry

2. Text portion: Any text should be large enough to read and not cut off

3. All images should contain titles and images are large enough to view the details

4. Number of slides for Power Point Presentation, must meet minimum requirements (in parentheses)

5. Turn in (submit) by uploading to the Research Project Assignment on Canvas, share via Google slides, or email professor directly if you should have problems uploading.

Creative Aspects:

1. All images should be clear with appropriate resolution.

2. You can use photos from personal vacations or visits that pertain to your topic 3. Be creative with font, themes and background, and contextual information.

4. Make sure it is organized and edited for grammatical errors.

Guideline for Power Point Presentation:

1. Title Page (include your name and title of project)
2. Table of Content
3. Background History
a. map

c. political influence (rulers, monarchs)
d. religious influence (religion, religious leaders)
e. economic influence (social class, who paid/commissioned work)
f. additional information such as social class or interesting information that affected art, design or architecture
4. Exterior Architecture
a. structures (temples, palaces, residences, monuments, religious and secular (public) buildings)
5. Interior Architecture
a. interior of structures (religious, secular, residential) 6. Original furniture of the period
a. If there are no furnishings you may substitute for something else of your choice (fashion, military equipment, clocks, jewelry, etc.)
7. Fabrics/Materials
a. fabrics used on furniture, for clothing, materials for furniture such as woods, metals, stone, etc.
8. Motifs
a. motifs are common symbols used in art, furniture, architecture such as moldings, columns, etc.)
9. Art
a. murals, paintings, sculpture, wooden objects, metal objects 10. Contemporary usage/applications
a. furniture, accessories such as pillows or objects, and architecture that demonstrates clearly the influence from this time period or culture in a modern setting.
11. Personal Photos (optional): If you have photos & information that pertain to your project. (Photos of either art, exterior or interior architecture or furnishings)
a. Aside from museum you may visit: hotel, restaurant, historical site, casino, theme park, mall, antique store.
