ACTIVITY: Case Study
Instructions:
- After watching the video, find a Canadian company you think embodies the same values of reciprocity in relationship with other companies and customers described in the video above.
- It must be a company that is wholly owned and operated within Canada
- Research that company.
- Then consider the following questions.
Questions:
1. What role does cultural intelligence play in understanding practices of cultures that are not the same as our own culture?
2. How does the company you selected represent the ideas presented in the video?
3. Have you ever been the recipient of "free gifts" from a for-profit company? What was the impact of that gift on your attitude towards that company?
4. What "rules" or "principles" does this suggest to you that you should follow when you are giving a gift?
5. What, if any, is the difference between gift-giving and a bribe? Are bribes OK in some cultures?
6. What evidence do you have that the company you have selected is successful?
7. What role does your own cultural intelligence play in how your determine is a company is practicing reciprocity, participating in gift-giving, or merely offering a bribe?
Further Instructions:
1. Each assignment must be between 800 - 1000 words. Those who do not meet this basic requirement will be deducted an automatic 2 marks.
2. The questions above are meant to guide you - you do not have to answer each in the order they are laid out. But you must have an assignment that addresses those general areas.
3. You cannot use SIGA as your company.
4. Your assignment must have an introduction that highlights main points and a conclusion that briefly sums up your analysis.
5. You must have a reference page for all websites etc. that you use and you must use APA format.
6. You may not cut and paste material from these cites without properly using in-text citation.
7. Assignments must be submitted as .docx or .pdf. No other formats will be accepted.
8. You do not need a title page but you must put your name and student number at the top of the assignment.
