What I really enjoyed about reading this indictment was the "Manner and Means" sections that explained in detail how the defendants went about to commit the acts named in the indictment. It showed what great lengths they went to evade being detected. I believe that the "Manner and Means" section of the indictment played a vital role in establishing two important factors. One, the defendants acted knowingly, and two, acted with intent to commit an unlawful activity. Although the theme of the article in the previous discussion was corruption, the indictment shows that corruption was only the tip of the iceberg and merely summed up the cluster of crimes that had to occur to offer bribes to political officials. Conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering are only a few crimes that were mentioned in the indictment as they were directly connected to act committed in violation of the FCPA. This case has prompted me to think about how this corruption may have had an impact on other crimes like murder, that might appear to be an isolated event, but could have been tied to the level of corruption displayed in this indictment.
