Assignment - Pharmacology Care Plan for Mrs. Walker

Purpose: This assignment provides the opportunity for students to apply knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics. You will be assessed on how you apply an understanding of the following general learning outcomes:

• Examine medication measurements using various systems of measurements (amount/quantity).
• Examine selected herbal medications, including their effects, side effects, and interactions with other drugs.
• Examine nursing implications and responsibilities related to medication administration.

Instructions -

Read the case study below. Answer the following questions related to the case study based on the rights of medication administration:

• Indicate why each medication was ordered for this patient (include the disease process, the mechanism of action, and pharmacological class).
• Identify the route, dosage and time each medication is given, show the drug calculation.
• Identify 1 pre- and 1 post-assessment for each of the medications listed.
• Provide a NANDA diagnosis based on a patient refusing their medication (see p. 11-12 in Lilley et al.) (include diagnosis statement, outcome statement and the intervention).
• Indicate the patient teaching that would be done for a table salt substitute (e.g., Lo Salt, Herbamare) and explain why this teaching is important.
