A woman presents with concerns about her husband's mental health stating that over the past year he has become increasingly jealous and accusatory. Recently he accused her of being with multiple lovers. He told her he believes she was getting out of bed at night to be with them and she was communicating with them using lights and mirrors when he was nearby so he would not notice. Wrong number phone calls were more evidence that her lovers were contacting her, and he believed that cars passing the house flashed their lights to signal her. He put tape on the windows and doors and took pictures of their furniture and any change propelled him into a tirade about her unfaithfulness. She considered leaving him but was afraid he might become violent towards her. An interview with the client's daughter corroborated her story. Prior to this change in her partner's behavior, the marriage had been stable. Early in the marriage the husband drank heavily and sometimes assaulted the client, but this ceased as he aged. The husband's family history included alcoholism but no psychiatric disorders.
