You are the HIM Director for Davenport Community Hospital. Patient admissions and census at the hospital has significantly increased over the last fiscal year. You have determined that you currently need to hire 1.5 additional FTE (Full Time Employees) coders in order to keep up on current productivity requirements for the hospital, as well as to keep the DNFB (Discharged Not Final Billed) dollars below the hospital benchmark. Davenport Community Hospital is near the end of a hiring freeze, and is getting ready to approve the hiring of 25 total FTEs for the organization. Hospital administration has asked each department in need of increased human resources to submit a formal justification of their need for consideration. Provide your justification to administration being sure to address the following:

1. What are the implications of not hiring the additional FTE's? List at least 2 and explain/discuss.

2. What statistics/reports would you refer to in order to validate your need?

3. How would you present the financial impact both with, and without the addition of the 1.5 FTE's?
