Due to increased demand for takeout during the pandemic, Queensland is facing a critical skills shortage in the fish and chips industry. In an effort to combat this growing problem, Jill, an award-winning Fish and Chips owner from New Zealand has been flown in to open a Fish and Chips store right here in St Lucia. Jill requested a database system be developed which can keep track of the menu for this new store. The information which needs to be captured by the system is stated below.
Each item on the menu has a unique name and a unique number. The price for each item is also recorded along with a brief description which does not exceed 100 words. An item on the menu is classified as either fish, drink or chips. For each fish item, the origin of where the fish was sourced from is recorded. The system also stores a recommended drink to go along with some fish items. A drink item has a volume value associated with it along with a flag indicating if the drink has sugar. Some drinks are alcoholic in which case the maximum number of that specific drink which can be served to a patron is recorded. For chip items, the size and seasoning(s) used is logged. Chips are either served as wedges, fries, or a combination of both. For wedges, the recommended dipping sauce is stored while for fries, the length of the fries are stored.
The store also offers deals when some combinations of a fries item, a fish item and a drink item are purchased together. The system records the discount amount for these combo deals.
