Globalization has led to an increase in business relations with foreign corporations and other different businesses. In my opinion, this is an extremely interesting topic because a qualified manager should always take into account local traditions, and most importantly - taboos. Sometimes non-compliance with cultural differences and characteristics can have fatal consequences.
As I did a small research online, there are three major types of business customs that a company and managers must be aware of. The first is cultural imperatives when all of the special business behaviors must be satisfied or even sometimes avoided. For example, in China, it is not common to negotiate and meet while having a meal. Secondly, cultural electives are also essential, and sometimes business partners should participate and join these traditions/behaviors. For instance, business cards in Arab countries are usually printed on both sides - one in English, and another in the local language. And the last business custom is cultural exclusives - the behaviors that are prohibited. For example, be sure to research the U.S. state you are going to since each of them has its own traditions and rules.
In my view, the exceptions of doing international business and foreign communications are directly related to the culture of a country. Every year, the influence of the socio-cultural environment on international business becomes more and more important.
