The first benefit of teamwork I think of is the division of labor. As people collaborate to accomplish any task or project, there will be improvement in efficiency and quality of outcome as opposed to individual effort, because of the combined energies and talents of the members. (Grimes, et al., 2018). I also believe teamwork improves success rates within learning programs i.e. benefit to the student and program. Students learn from each other's skills and experiences and academic programs could have reputational benefits when they employ collaboration because...the range of views and diversity can energize the process, helping address creative blocks and stalemates. (Grimes, et al., 2018). As regards challenges which the team may face...if some team members are not carried along throughout the project, and/or some of their contributions are not considered, they may be pressured to go along with a procedure, plan, or product that they themselves have not developed. (Grimes, et al., 2018). Another challenge that could hinder the team's productivity is when the diversity of team members may incite conflict of personalities and competition. (Grimes, et al., 2018).
From the report, we learn that in an increasingly service-based economy... we have seen the rise in ... demand for so-called "soft" skills-critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and teamwork, and effective and timely communication. (Labi, 2014). While in school, I think it would be adamant to practice 'conflict management strategies' such as avoiding conflict, supportive communication (focusing on the message, not personalities) and empathetic listening. (Ashman, 2020).
