Question

When considering the impact of sentence length and amount of time an inmate was incarcerated on misconduct, male and female inmates differ. Male inmates tend to adjust to prison the longer they are there. Female inmates, on the contrary, had more difficulties adjusting to prison life the longer they were there. In recent research, men and women both engage in more misconduct the longer they are incarcerated, which is contrary to much of the earlier research. The current study attempted to expand this body of literature by examining the correlates of sexual misconduct among a sample of male inmates (500 inmates participated in the survey). Based on the findings, researchers confirmed that the length of time the inmate served resulted in a 1.96 increase in the odds of committing sexual misconduct. It is possible that sexual misconduct is different from other types of disciplinary infractions. Is this a positive or negative correlation?
