Assignment - You will write a paper of 3-5 pages that makes a historical argument based on the primary sources in the capstone chapter of Going to the Source. Read the whole chapter, paying especially careful attention to the section, "The Source: Documents on Women, Work, and Family, 1950-2000." Use the "source analysis table" on page 324 to make notes on each of the sources. These notes will be for your own reference as you compose the paper. Once you have read the chapter, consider what you have learned from the primary sources about the American past, and answer: In what ways did Americans' opinions about mothers, work, and child care change and stay the same over the period 1950-2000, and what factors influenced those changes? Put your answer in the form of a thesis statement-a sentence that makes an argument about the past. This is your claim. Make sure the claim fits the evidence. The body of the paper should show how evidence from the primary sources proves the claim.
