On Nov 1, 2012 there was a Florida poll. The poll was of 549 likely Florida voters. 47% said they were going to vote for Obama, and 50% said they were going to vote for Romney.
In the actual voting Obama got 50% and Romney got 49.1%. The purpose of this problem is to see if the pole was faulty. To answer this, do the following.
a. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of people who planned to vote for Obama
b. Using your results from a, tell if the fact that Obama got 50% of the votes cast showed the poll was faulty.
c. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the true proportion of people who planned to vote for Romney.
d. Using your results from c, tell if the fact that Romney got only 49.1% of the votes casts showed the poll was faulty.
