With all the changes in this industry, we must be able to adjust and evolve. In order to truly provide "comprehensive care" we must not only treat the problems of today, but also the problems of tomorrow. An organization called the Institute for Healthcare Improvement promotes what they call "The IHI Triple Aim. Their initiative is to improve the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improve the health of populations, and reduce the per capita cost of health care. They advise on a systematic approach with the understanding that multiple levels are involved in implementing change. Going green can be a great way to save the planet, but how do organizations combat the initial financial challenges when implementing that change? Regarding sustainability and improved patient outcomes, I think that small internal site-by-site improvements will eventually lead to a shared goal and outcome for the collective. Any thoughts on this?
