Question: The issue of food production has been a topic of research and exploration for several decades. The articles presented examine the various issues in the food sector such as nature and environment, society, food safety, and industrial food production. According to Alkon (2012), the natural world and society are interrelated including within the food systems and both depend on the each other. The proponents of local and organic food production believe there are ways to support the environment, while also supporting people and society. Their argument notes that the overall well-being of individuals and the local community, both environmentally and economically, would be improved if food production was more local and organic. (Alkon, 2012) In the article "Local and Regional Systems" (2014), the author identifies that there is a relationship between the global food industry and the local food system. Although there is recognition that the global industrial food system can sometimes be more efficient and cost effective, the benefit is local food systems have more direct impact, including helping the local economy, improving the health of consumers by having better quality and healthier foods, with less preservatives and environmental impact, and improving the access to the food by disadvantaged
