Find a partner and ask them to be a distracted listener. Time yourself talking to them for one minute about your favorite vacation. Ask them to do everything but appearing to listen - no eye contact, fldgeting around, rolling their eyes, interrupting, etc. Keep talking the full minute. Discuss how it felt to you and your partner. Now, reverse roles but this time, you be an active listener - good eye contact, acknowledging with "ah hah's, and ummm's", don't interrupt, sit comfortably in an open position, etc.). After they talk for a full minute, talk again about how it felt.

1. When you were the speaker and your partner was a distracted listener, how did it feel to both of you?

2. When you were the active listener and your partner was talking, did that feel differently to both of you?
