Case: A company that provides industrial refrigeration services for many customers in the "Meat Industry" has approached your company looking for improved systems for refrigeration installations.

Here you will have to analyse this system using any appropriate techniques or methods to improve its performance, giving justified reasons. The System above although it is electronically controlled, uses the start-stop cycling of the compressors to control the temperature of the meat storage rooms.

The manager of the meat storage company was told by one of his maintenance personnel that a refrigeration system that uses Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) is more efficient than the existing system which does not use that technology. He has therefore asked you to evaluate the characteristics of an industrial refrigeration system that uses this technology specifying its advantages above the traditional technology and its suitability for use in an industrial refrigeration system. For this you will need to do the following first and use that information to answer the above:

Question i) Analyse this system by researching similar types of systems that are being used and provide information on its performance. Any specific information on the particular industrial system should be noted.

Question ii) For the researched system above, provide information on its characteristics, be it electronics, equipment controls, electrical specs, mechanical operation or otherwise, as well as what specific solutions it was design for.
