Introduction:
Write your position on the importance of human capital management in achieving organizational goals and a competitive advantage.
Part 1 - Recruitment and Selection
One of the most important jobs as a café manager is to recruit and select the best employees.
First, you will draft an employee application ad for the position of waiters. You also have to create a set of questions that are important in the interview process to evaluate the candidates and have that minimum information needed to select the best candidate(s) for the waiter position.
1. Make an advertisement to attract potential candidates for the waiter position. Keep the ad between 100 to 200 words long. Make sure it is suitable for print and online job listings.
2. Find and list at least three places where you can post the job ad for the job in your locality.
3. Once you have attracted several potential candidates, how would you decide which one to select for your coffee shop? Identify at least three qualities or qualifications that this potential employee must have that you feel are very important for server job candidates.
4. Make five questions that you could use for interviewing potential server job candidates.
Part 2 - Human Capital Management
Managing your coffee shop's human talent is another important factor in achieving business and commercial objectives. In the simulator, you decide how many employees to hire and how much compensation to pay them. These decisions affect customer service, employee turnover and the financial results of the cafeteria.
As far as we know, managers can serve customers, but you have to hire part-time servers to provide good customer service. Especially if the business operation is 16 hours a day (Monday through Friday).
Answer the following questions:
1. How many servers will you need to employ to have a server running at all times? Remember that servers work about 10 hours a week.
2. Assume that there are two waiters and a manager on staff all day and that the store is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Calculate the daily service capacity if the average waiter can serve 15 cups of coffee in an hour and the manager can serve 4.
a) What factors will improve employee productivity in the business?
b) What might limit the service capacity of your coffee shop?
Part 3 - Training and Development
Adequate training and development of the staff working in your business is important to achieve the objectives outlined during the planning process. This is why it is important to develop activities that promote ongoing staff development.
For this part of the task, draft a training program that includes the following aspects:
I. Identify several topics that you feel are important for human resource development.
II. Identify the objectives you want to achieve with the training.
III. Make a proposal with the resources that will be necessary to carry out the activities (internal, external lecturer, etc.).
IV. Determine the modality in which the activity will be carried out (classroom, e-training, workshop, etc.).
V. Include the budget items to be considered for the development of the activity.
