Question: Lila is a client who comes to see you for her initial assessment at your outpatient substance use agency. Lila shares with you that she is connecting with you because her Probation Officer has recommended that she seek substance use counselling for her cocaine use. Lila tells you that she has been using cocaine almost daily for the last 7 months. She was caught with cocaine by the police when she was pulled over one night because she was driving 50km/h over the speed limit. The police officer recommended that Lila receive support from the Durham Drug Treatment Court, where she was connected with her probation officer and other professionals. Lila tells you that she doesn't want to stop using cocaine altogether, but she wants to make sure she's following the plan set out by the Drug Treatment Court, so that she doesn't end up going to jail. Lila also tells you that she has been sleeping on friends' couches for the last couple months and doesn't have much money to pay for the bus to make it to your appointments.
