Assignment - Setup of Essential services
Objectives: By completing this assignment, students will be demonstrating their knowledge and skills for designing, installing, configuring and testing essential services available on a modern network on the internet.
Case study
Gt7 is a small progressive private business in real estate. The headquarter is on the Gold Coast and a small office in Brisbane. Since they have experienced rapid growththey are planning to re-design their existing IT system by having more secure, integrated and UpToDate technologies in alignment with their strategic planning for the next five years.
The following requirements have been identified:
• A robust IP planning considering the growth in the future and addressing the existing infrastructure
• Installing active directory for orchestrating network access policies and authentication for users and apps on HQ and other branches if required
• Managing name resolution using DNS servers internally
• Dynamic IP allocation for nodes.
• In-house Web server integrated with SQL sever
• Email server
You are free to make further assumptions if you think it is required. However, they need to be documented in the appropriate sections of your report.
Required Tasks
Task1. Ip allocation and logical design:
Please develop a logical topology and IP plan for this company.
After finalizing this task, you should have:
• A simple logical design for the GT7 network highlighting the essential components of the network.
• An IP address plan for the network, including the IP range for each site, the gateway addresses. And IP addresses for each server.
Please use the following formula to calculate the Head office and Brisbane branch's IP address range.
Task 2: Essential services for internet
In this Task, you need to architectand implement asingle sing on, Name resolution and DHCP for the company
Task2: Part A
For this task, you need to provide a discussion and explain how and why you have chosen a specific tools/software and architecture.
Using a virtual platform :
• Install, configure and test a Domain Controller on HQ suitable for the case study.
1. For installation, you can refer to workshops, the domain name is" your family name.com"
2. The domain controller must have at least 5 users with different group membership
3. The test process:
• You must have a windows client operating system such as Windows 7 or 10 installed as Virtual machine.
• Should be able to ping the DC from the client Operating System
• should show a client Machin joined successfully.
• Install and configure a DNS server on the domain controller.
1. The DNS zone configuration, SOA should be presented
2. DNS must be integrated with DC and DHCP
3. Minimum five DNS record must be created and tested
4. Name resolution must be tested from a host PC.
• Install, configure and test DHCP on HQ
1. DHCP must have full integration with Domain controller.
2. The scope, reservation must be configured.
3. DHCP binding should be shown.
4. The test should show how a client successfully obtains an address.
Task 2: Part B:
For this task, you need to provide a discussion and explain how and why you have chosen a specific tools/software and architecture.
• Install, configure and test a backup DNS server on Brisbane office
1. The DNS zone configuration, SOA should be presented
2. The DNS replication must be verified.
• Install, configure and test a backup Domain controller server on Brisbane office
1. A trust relations ship must be identified correctly and implemented
2. User replication should be shown
Task 3: Essential applications on the INTERNET
For this task, you need to provide a discussion and explain how and why you have chosen a specific tools/software and architecture.
In this task, you are required to choose between two important services on internet infrastructure.
Choose one of the following services and install in Brisbane office.
• webserver with a SQL server,
• OR
• Email Server with 10 users and testing email server
You must be able to demonstrate the ability to Install, configure and test the applications you are trying to install by providing supporting paragraphs and screenshots that can verify the work has been done.
Task 4 Report.
A final report must be submitted including the screenshots proving you have taken all steps for implementation and testing.
The report must include a cover page, table of content, abstract and conclusion.
