The neurons of the medial superior olive (MSO) of the brainstem play an important role in sound localization. Answer the following questions to explain how the neurons of the MSO compute interaural time differences.

a) MSO neurons receive input from the anteroventral cochlear nucleus (AVCN). When considering a single neuron of the left MSO, which AVCN (left or right) structure sends inputs to the medial dendrites of this neuron? Which AVCN (left or right) sends axons to the lateral dendrites of this axon?

b) If a sound is coming from the left side, describe how the axons projecting from each AVCN to the dendrites of this left MSO neuron are arranged in order to allow MSO neurons to compute interaural time differences.
