Each student will research one of the topics below and give a five-ten minute presentation to their classmates. Students cannot duplicate topics, although several students may choose the cross-cultural topic if they do not research the same population. More than one student can research the biography and theories topic provided they choose different figures from the history of group therapy. If the class is very large and there are not enough topics to go around, students can work in teams of two or three to complete this assignment.

• Important milestones in the development of group counseling.

• Compare and contrast psycho-educational groups with deep process groups (a.k.a. group therapy).

• Compare and contrast self-help groups from deep process groups.

• Compare and contrast diagnosis-based groups with deep process groups.

• Compare and contrast group work with all-male groups with all-female groups.

• Pros and cons of co-educational group for people in recovery.

• Pros and cons of the use of 'drop-in' groups with homeless and/or street- entrenched individuals.

• Cross-cultural issues in group work (can be cross cultural issues in general, or could reflect the issues of a specific population, such as "specific needs of Aboriginals in group work".
