QUESTION 1
This week you learned about the importance of tailoring and tweaking your resume. Now, in discussion, you will get the chance to practice doing that.
To begin, select one of the job postings listed below. Note: a variety of postings have been provided, so you should be able to find something similar to your desired career path. However, none of these postings may be an exact match to what you hope to do in the future. That is okay. This exercise is not meant to necessarily prepare you perfectly for your desired career. Instead, it is meant to give you necessary practice of looking at a job posting and editing your resume accordingly. This is a valuable experience.
The links below are meant to serve as templates for potential employers to use. As you'll see, there are places for them to add details, benefits, etc. However, you can use these sample postings to practice tweaking your resume based on the skills and qualifications lists.
- HR Administrative Assistant
- Office Administrator
- Recruiting Coordinator
- Medical Scribe
- Medical Coder
- Marketing Specialist
- Correctional Officer
- Teacher Aide
- Case Manager

SELECTED JOB IS TEACHER AIDE
Once you have selected a job description from the links above, tailor and tweak your existing resume using the tips provided in lecture to fit with your selected job description. You can start with the resume you created in a previous course (such as SOSC116) or one that you have used for a past job opportunity and edit/work from there. Highlight or add comment bubbles in Word indicating where you make changes. Then, in your initial post:
1. Attach your tailored resume.
- As noted above, please highlight or add comment bubbles in Word indicating where changes have been made. This will help your classmates and instructor provide feedback on what was done and where else you might want to tailor things to a selected job posting.
2. Indicate which of the provided job descriptions you selected and used for inspiration in tweaking your resume.
3. Explain to your instructor and classmates the edits you made in tailoring your resume. Describe how those edits fit with what you learned in lecture and exactly how your resume highlights the skills and qualifications necessary for the job description you selected.
If you have not created a resume in the past, please do so now and tailor it to one of the job descriptions provided above. Then, in your initial post:
- Note to your classmates and instructor that you are working on a completely new resume.
- Attach your resume.
- Indicate which of the provided job descriptions you selected and used for inspiration in creating your resume.
- Explain to your instructor and classmates why you felt it was important to include the information you did in your resume. Describe how the information in your resume fits with what you learned in lecture and exactly how your resume highlights the skills and qualifications necessary for the job description you selected.
