Many cultures and religions recognize the importance of rituals and rites of passages as a way to formally acknowledge and celebrate the idea that a child has entered into adulthood. Apart from that however, popular culture does not provide these rites. As our adolescents enter into adulthood it is done without formality or recognition. Yes, there are some milestones that young adults may achieve such as, the first car, the first legal drink, or the right to vote. Yet, these milestones in the truest sense are not rites of passage and certainly not rituals. A ritual is defined as: "a solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order".
