Assignment:
Choose to learn more about a drug from the course textbook to create your infographic, *with the exception of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana *(these are the three most common drugs that have been overdone). Choose ANY OTHER drug to learn about.
Your assignment includes two tasks:
- To create a public health infographic by creating a poster that highlights 5-7 things about a specific drug of your choice
- Write a short elevator pitch (written description) about what you have created.
The target audience for your drug infographic will be youth ages 16-24.
Think of this as a public health prevention information opportunity.
PART 1: Infographic/Poster Requirements:
Infographic should include 5 to 7 topics that you believe should be learned about a specific drug. Use the information from the textbook as well as drawing from your own ideas or other resources to display the importance of education related to the effects on the body/brain, the history, harms of, culture around the use of this drug.
There are several FREE infographic makers available online to create a digital poster. Most students have had success using Canva (www.canva.com) ; Adobe spark (www.spark.adobe.com); or Piktochart (www.piktochart.com)
You will need a bit of patience to move, size, choose images, and text designs. So I suggest to plan ahead and choose a free, clean and simple design that matches your topic. Once you have completed the infographic, you should save it in a .pdf format.
You can also use features in MSWord to create flowcharts and other designs as an alternative option.
PART 2: Elevator Pitch Requirements:
- A concise 300 to 400 word description of why you included the topics and why you think your choices are effective for the public health of youth. So you need to be specific, critical and reflective in what you write here for me to grade this on 10 points. Think about the impact of public health messages and education about the drug.
- Demonstrate your critical understanding of the importance of education on the topics you have chosen about your drug. (Think of this as an elevator pitch in which you have 30 seconds to convince me that your drug poster will impact youth choices about their drug choices/use).
