Hao Chi, is a local food and beverage chain founded decades ago. The company started out as a small family business but has grown to be a regional organisation with branches and franchisees across different countries in the last 2-3 years. Given its expansion, the current management wants to improve their selection and hiring practices as they foresee a need to hire more and better people. You are the new Recruitment Manager hired to oversee this initiative. Upon joining the organisation, you noticed that hiring decisions are decentralized to respective business managers and practices are inconsistent as with most family businesses. Staff are hired through family and friend recommendations, casual conversations over coffee, and at best, screening of resumes.

(a) Explain the importance of assessments in personnel selection and describe the SIX (6) principles of ethical assessment.

(b) Describe how the current practices common mistakes in hiring decisions and its impact on Hao Chi. Demonstrate how proper assessment could help Hao Chi make wise and fair hiring decisions.
