Reflective Thoughts:
Drawing from the information provided in this course, and reflecting on information learned from prior courses, consider the role of regulatory and accrediting agencies. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) primarily provide oversight to different types of healthcare facilities.
The different types of healthcare facilities have various regulations, rules, and laws, that must be followed. While there are other regulatory bodies, such as the Joint Commission, these parties are responsible for ensuring standards are met based on specific criteria. The impact of a negative regulatory survey, or accreditation visit, can influence a facility's functionalities, thus changing a multitude of outcomes ranging from operations, medical, clinical, and overall financial capabilities. The impact of a positive regulatory survey, or accreditation visit, can also influence the overall aspects of a facility, which may result in new recognition of programs, financial incentives, and increased market share.
Discussion Post: In a minimum of 150 words, respond to the following situation:
You are a department manager at your local hospital and you are preparing your team for their annual regulatory visit. As the leader of your department, share with your team the importance of a regulatory visit or annual survey.
In addition, provide your team with words of encouragement as you explain why this upcoming visit is important to the organization.
