You are the nurse manager in a a small department within the 400-- bed Médica Sur Lomas hospital, in which most of the patients speak English as a second language. During a recent interdepartmental meeting, the infection control department reported a two-times increase in D from last year. Knowing the significant financial impact of hospital-acquired infections and accreditation standards, this issue must immediately be addressed by your department.

As the nurse manager, you are charged with evaluating this problem and implementing a quality improvement process to reverse these reported levels. Your team is not pleased that they have been asked to spearhead this initiative and already feel overworked.
