A new system
You're a manager at a large organization with over 2,000 employees. You manage a team of about 40 people.
Currently, you create schedules yourself and then post a hard copy in the common area for people to review. When people want to take vacation, they submit a paper request form to you, and then you review it and let them know if it's approved.
It's pretty time consuming, and it can be complicated. Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle with all the paper requests flying around, and it can take you a while to review all the requests, after which, you need to update the schedule and re-post it.
Despite all that, people are generally pretty comfortable with the process.
Your director just passed along some pretty big news-a major change is coming.
The organization is implementing a new electronic time capture and employee service system.
What does this mean?
- Schedules will now be created electronically by a centralized scheduling department and posted online-no more hard copies.
- Employees will need to review schedules and submit all vacation requests online-again, no more hard copies.
- Employees will now be required to sign in and out of work electronically using their ID card-the electronic time record will be used to generate their pay.
You're about to hold a meeting with your team to discuss the news.
In preparation for the meeting:
- Anticipate two or three reasons that employees may respond negatively to this change.
- Identify two or three potential benefits of the change that you will share with your team.
