Business: Implementation Strategies for Developing Your System

You are responsible for following instructions provided below (that means read the introduction and all parts of the instructions to assure you understand). Be sure you attend or listen to the recorded Zoom Session addressing the expectations for the assignment. Then, if you have questions, post to the Ask the Professor discussion forum by Friday to assure I can respond in time to give you the guidance you ask for prior to the deadline. Please assure you address the concepts as detailed in the rubric and work together as a team to finalize the integration and confirm coverage of instructions and rubric.

As we moved through the course, you have set strategic goals - the basic foundation that guides your decisions and you have determined your business needs in relation to management information systems. This assignment asks you to consider how you will pull it together and walk through the process of phases performed in the Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC), to focus particular attention on reviewing or revisiting your requirements, and to consider how "users" will interact with the system. For your various components, think through the 4 Ws - why, who, when and what (why do I need this, who needs this, when is this needed and what is it needed for). The when may be as simple as we need immediately or we will need at a specific point in our business's growth. You will end by comparing the SDLC "Waterfall" methodology with the newer trend provided by Agile methodology.

What is involved?
- Apply all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle to your business with emphasis (that's more specific, in-depth analysis) on planning, requirements gathering and implementation.
- Develop two User Stories for different roles for a component you identify within the management information system for your business.
- Contrast the Waterfall and Agile methodologies, discuss when and why you might choose to utilize Agile to develop your system and its implementation.

Preparatory Steps and Instructions

Step 1: Review the general concepts of building, i.e., developing and implementing, successful information systems.
Step 2: As a team, choose an information systems (applications) that you have identified in previous assignments (or determine new ones, we change our plans sometimes) and discuss each phase of the SDLC.
• Consider the questions critical for planning for the chosen system/application
• Determine the 4 W's for the chosen system/application.
• Develop a User Story for the chosen system/application (actually TWO, see rubric). User stories are part of the Agile methodology, however, I have placed this bullet point here so you can compare or contrast the 4 W's with the concept of User Stories. (Readings and Lecture in Module for this week and as an Appendix to this assignment.)

Step 3: Explore the Agile methodology, (Readings and Lecture in Module.. you may want to go beyond your text with the resources provided in the Module or your own research. Be sure to cite all outside sources).
Step 4:Provide a briefing document that presents your development and implementation plan - citing concepts within the text and then applying to your business. This briefing document will outline your approach to developing and implementing a management information system for your business as an organized presentation that is reflective of your decisions and should provide links (ties) to the readings, recorded and linked lectures, and video assignments and exercises in the Module for Week 11.
• List the names of the students that participated and contributed to this assignment at the top of the document you submit. Provide the names in alphabetical order by last name. If a student did not participate, they will not receive credit for the assignment.
• Begin the briefing document with a brief (one paragraph) summary of your business and its purpose which leads into your consideration of developing and implementing the management information systems for your business. (Note: the only change in this paragraph is the lead-in to the specific application activity unless you received feedback for improvement in prior FB files)
• Present the concepts (with citations) in alignment with the instructions and the rubric.
o Do not use Steps as Headings, any Headings should identify concepts included in the paragraphs that follow). The Steps are provided in as preparatory considerations for pulling your briefing document together.
• As you discuss the concepts from your text and assignments and then describe the application to your business be sure to provide citations within the text of your document and references at the end of the document.
o A simple trick is to remember citations credit original sources so whenever you define/explain a concept, provide a citation, e.g. (Bidgoli, 2021). . When you're providing your views, your application, you do not need to cite.
o References provide the listing of sources for all citations at the end of the document.
o Please review OWL Purdue (link provided below) if you are unfamiliar with the need to provide citations and references to credit original sources (and avoid any hint of plagiarism which can have serious consequences).

Step 5:Each team member will individually submit a reflection and evaluation of your team process - what you think worked well and did not work well with your group - in Canvas following submission. The BAA5 Team Reflection and Evaluation will be open from Sunday - Tuesday.
