Implementation of almost any new program, process, or strategy is best accomplished on a continuum rather than wholesale, immediate mandates. A framework for the implementation continuum includes diffusion, dissemination, and implementation. Each stage engages an expanding group of participants and carefully utilizes observations and data measures to ensure fidelity of implementation and to evaluate behaviors and outcomes. Nurse leaders must be comfortable leading change in this environment.

Develop an original response addressing these prompts:

1. Discuss a quality-improvement process in your organization directed at "achieving zero" or becoming a high-reliability organization.

2. Using complexity science theory, explain the steps taken, desired outcomes, and actual outcomes of the quality improvement process.
