This building was formerly occupied by a telephone call-centre. As a result, it contains old structured cabling. The CEO of Asbestos Removal Contractors has asked you to advise him on some specific points of the network. He is keen to make the most of technology and the following outline requirements have been identified:
Overall System Requirements
1. To provide a network solution (hardware and software) to meet the needs of the company, which would improve the communication, productivity and the security of the business and information stored within.
2. Increase efficiency through reduction of paper based procedures. In particular allow staff working on site to access information at the head office from a tablet PC (Microsoft Surface has been selected).
3. Accommodate company expansion.
4. Internet access with a faster bandwidth.
Data and information
1. Company information to be stored centrally in the head office in an electronic format, minimizing paper documentation.
2. Database to manage existing and new information (training database, personnel database)
3. Information security must meet company policies.
Hardware
1. New computers to meet performance, security and storage requirements (including backup)
2. New PC workstations / laptops (total 13: 10 x desktop; 3 x Laptop) running Microsoft Windows.
3. New network printer
4. Network components as required. 5. 8 x Microsoft Surface tablets and Microsoft Nokia smart phones
Software
1. Latest Microsoft Office Suite required.
2. Up-to-date Sage accountancy software and Sage Payroll,
3. E-mail server or software with a calendar feature, which can be shared between employees.
4. Web & email Internet access
5. Suitable security software
Security requirements
1. Restrictions are required to be implemented to the users of the company to control access to the confidential information.
2. System is required to be secure from internal and external threats.
3. Implement an automated daily backup policy, for all of the information stored within the business.
4. Support contract may be required to help manage users, permissions, software updates, etc.
Further discussion will be required to establish downtime that is acceptable.
TASK 1: Selecting the best approach to develop the Network
What is meant by network topology and what do you need to know to determine if the existing topology is suitable? You should discuss
T 1.1 differences in topology, data rate and the type of cable required. A good answer will relate your recommendation to the business requirements.
Determine the costs for the implementation of your recommended
Determine the benefits that can gain from the Network implementations.
TASK 2 : Select the best network technology
For the above scenario research on appropriate network technologies
T 2.1 with all the network components and there features that supported in order to maintain effective network system.
Suggest best network technology for the above scenario, you can suggest
T 2.2 hybrid versions as well. Provide your rationale for any kind of suggestions you are putting on the table.
TASK 3: Selecting best cabling medium for the proposed network solution
What is meant by structured cabling and what do you need to know to determine if the existing cabling is suitable? You should discuss
T 3.1 differences in data rate and the type of cable required. A good answer will relate your recommendation to the business requirements.
Research on cabling types available in the market and study on those
T 3.2 options shortcomings and strengths.
Suggest the most suitable network cable medium for the given network
T 3.3 solution by balancing between costing and the quality of the service.
TASK 4: Plan for Network implementation
As this network implementation needs to cover reasonable area, the management is expecting further more expansions. Study on the
T 3.1 network technologies available in order to expand the network in future, in the discussion provide those equipments and medias strengths andweakness as well.
From the above research identify the functions of identified devices in T 3.2 order to include in network implementation for future expansions
Integrate all the findings above, design your network implementation by T 3.3 providing descriptive network diagram including all the descriptions of the devices, cabling, etc.
