Question

In Chapter 7, (US History to 1865 ) we examined some major aspects of the Early Republic. Among these, the War of 1812 was the first true external challenge that the American Republic would face. Many consider the war a "Second American Revolution" or at the very least a continuation of the earlier conflict with England. How should we view the War of 1812 today? Should it be considered a success because the united states survived the conflict, or a failure because the United States was once again unsuccessful in its quest to incorporate Canada into the Republic? Should it be considered an obscure conflict with no impact on the nation and its future trajectory or is its true significance overlooked? Please explain your thinking with evidence from the text and supplementary materials.
