RESEARCH TOPIC - Impact of Training and Development on Employees In small and medium Enterprises The case for Blantyre City, Malawi
In order to successfully complete this task please read carefully the previous weeks' recommended readings as well as pay attention to the below instructions:
1) Choose a research topic that falls in your research area of interest
2) Explain the research process and the philosophies involved.
3) Select the most appropriate research philosophy for your selected topic.
Support your paper with a minimum of five (5) resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.
Length: 3 - 4 pages not including title and reference pages.
Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and APA Referencing standard. For an effective research process, doctoral students from any field of study must be able to identify and clearly state a research problem (or an issue of concern) and well the research purpose of the study.
"Research Problem"
The problem statement is a brief discussion of a problem or observation succinctly identifying and documenting the need for and importance of the study. While describing and documenting the problem, appropriate published resources (i.e. available statistics from surveys indicating an issue of concern in your area of research) or relevant scholarly sources (i.e. that highlight the importance of research due to other limitations) that are documenting the existence of a problem is NEEDED at a doctoral level research. A lack of research alone is not a compelling problem (many things are not studied but do not necessarily warrant research).
The documented problem identified may be a practical problem or issue in the profession or study context for which there is not already an acceptable solution or explanation. In defining the problem a clear discrepancy must be drawn between that which exists currently and that which is desired.
Components of a Good Research Problem:
1. Be up-to-date
2. Evidence of Past Research in the field therefore,
3. Topic revealed from observation.
4. Known or Probable solution - Justifies if the topic is really researchable
5. Has it basis on Theoretical Framework
6. Scholarly peer reviewed and other sources documenting the existence of a problem worthy to be searched.
7. Originality of the study indicating the need for future research
"Research Purpose Statement"
The purpose statement provides the reader with a concise overview of the research project. As such, the researcher must make key decisions about the research before a purpose statement can be written such as:
- appropriate selection of research approach,
- profile of respondents,
- data collection tool to be used,
- location of survey,
- and the industry or sector that the area under investigation falls in.
