Appendix D: Structure and Presentation Guidelines - Dissertation
The Final Project of output type Dissertation must comply with the following structure and presentation guidelines. the stated word counts across the sections are for guidance only.
Title Page
The Title Page should include the full title of your dissertation, your RGU student number, your full name, your cohort, the module code and name, the school name, your supervisor's full name, and the submission date.
Refer to Appendix A for the Title Page Template. No additional Information should be included on the Title Page.
Copyright Declaration Form
Refer to Appendix B for the Copyright Declaration Form Template. No additional information should be included on the Copyright Declaration Form.
The purpose of this form is to declare in writing that all submitted work is your own and that no part of it has been previously published or submitted as an assessment elsewhere. it also confirms that, where necessary, that you have obtained the necessary permissions.
Abstract
The abstract is a brief paragraph summarizing the aim, focus, methodology, findings and recommendations of your dissertation. it is normally written once you have completed your dissertation. The abstract should be on a dedicated page and should not exceed 300 words.
Acknowledgments
The purpose of this section is to acknowledge and thank all individuals and entities (companies, institutions, organisations...etc.) that have provided support and help to complete the dissertation.
Table of Contents
The Table of Contents should list the Headings, Section Headings and Sub-section Headings.
Introduction
introduce the central idea of the topic under investigation and explain why It Important and what question's) is/area raised. You also need to state the aim of the project, the objectives sought, and explain how it contributes to existing knowledge.
Literature Review (2500 words)
The purpose of this section is to provide a critical review of the key ideas and themes under investigation. It should highlight the research relevant to the area of investigation and show an in. depth understanding of the concepts being investigated and the different views surrounding these. It also gives examples of previous findings and/or contradiction based on prior research related to the topic being investigated.
The literature review is not a summary of the various consulted secondary sources but should rather demonstrate your critical analytical skills in evaluating the sources and linking ideas leading to the development of your arguments.
At the end of the literature review, you need to explicitly highlight the gap in the literature that your project will address"
Research Methodology
In this section, you will present the details of your research methodology and methods, and explicitly state the research questions, aim and objectives. It is not a listing of the choices by but a critical examination and justification of the rationale behind your choices including primary data collection and secondary data consultation.
Details of the philosophy, approach, method and instrument used are to be presented and discussed with critical justification. Identity and justify the chosen sampling techniques and research method administration.
You are also expected to discuss the validity and reliability of your collected data and any ethical considerations, This section also presents an opportunity to discuss any challenges laced during the research process.
Results and Analysis
Provide a detailed summary of findings with supporting evidence in an appropriate presentation (graphs. quotations.. etc.) Compare and contrasts the results to the theories or findings discussed in the literature Review adding any necessary explanations. A clear discussion of implications of the findings is given in this section.
Conclusions and Recommendations
Present a succinct and (Mica/ synopsis of the key findings and implications of the research. Give recommendations for further research stemming from your discussion of the research you carried out and your findings.
References
Include a bibliographical list of all sources. All References must conform to the RGU Harvard Referencing System
Appendices
To include detailed supporting material such as questionnaires, lists, collected data...etc.
